Salt Lake City Area

Salt Lake City – UNIVERSITY OF UTAH engineers developed the first room-temperature fuel cell that uses enzymes to help jet fuel produce electricity without needing to ignite the fuel. These new fuel cells can be used to power portable electronics, off-grid power and sensors.

 Salt Lake City – OVERSTOCK.COM, INC. launched a new section within the Overstock website. Farmers Market will include hand-picked products throughout the United States that offer customers seasonal, healthy food that is grown and produced in their areas.

Salt Lake City – Gov. Gary R. Herbert and the GOVERNOR’S OFFICE OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT led a Utah trade mission to Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The delegation will partner with U.S. commercial services in an effort to help Utah businesses enter and expand into Brazil.

Salt Lake City – The MYHERITAGE Library Edition became available for free at every FAMILYSEARCH Family History Center and Family History Library in the world. MyHeritage’s new institutional service provides libraries and educational facilities access to billions of global historical documents.

Draper – PROGRESSIVE LEASING broke ground on a six-story headquarters building in Draper. The new headquarters will house 700 employees.

Salt Lake City – Ingo Money, Inc., reached an agreement to acquire Salt Lake-based FUZE NETWORK, INC., a card disbursement platform. The transaction is expected to close by year-end, subject to final due diligence and documentation.

Kearns – A solar array project at the UTAH OLYMPIC OVAL was completed on schedule and on budget. To celebrate the project completion, the Utah Olympic Oval venue hosted a community “lighting ceremony” featuring keynote speaker Lt. Gov. Spencer Cox.

Salt Lake City – The RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE addition, built by R&O CONSTRUCTION, won Best Project for residential/hospitality in McGraw Hill’s Engineering News Record’s Mountain States project competition.

Salt Lake City – INSIDESALES.COM opened an office in downtown Salt Lake City, its second corporate office. The company plans to hire more than 150 employees, mostly software engineers and salespeople.

Riverton – G&G CONTRACTING broke ground on the LODGE AT RIVERTON. The 45 unit type-II assisted living facility is planned to feature a “home-like” atmosphere for residents that includes a general common area and four identical wings.

Salt Lake City – BIOFIRE DIAGNOSTICS plans to build a $55 million facility in Research Park at the UNIVERSITY OF UTAH. The company expects the expansion to bring 750 new jobs over seven years and be completed in September 2016.

Salt Lake City – The UPTOWN CHEAPSKATE franchise opened a new flagship store at the corner of 2100 South and 1300 East in the newly developed Westminster at the Draw building in Sugar House.

Salt Lake City – The former US Bakery Building, a 3.18-acre mixed use development site, was sold. The parcel of land is located at the corner of 400 South and 700 East in Salt Lake City, adjacent to the Trax Red Line. IPG COMMERCIAL and CUSHMAN & WAKEFIELD | COMMERCE assisted in the sale.

Salt Lake City – VERISMIC opened a new development center at 175 W. 200 South, in the Historic Firestone Building in Salt Lake City, and relocated its chief technology officer, Mark Reed, from Florida to lead the office.

Salt Lake City – The Weber Area Dispatch 911 and Emergency Services District chose SPILLMAN TECHNOLOGIES for its computer-aided dispatch, records management system, jail management systems and mobile software.

Salt Lake City – RAGNAR RELAYS formed a partnership with Colorado-based sports recovery company, Elevated Legs. Elevated Legs will be the exclusive provider of pneumatic compression to aid in Ragnar runners’ recovery process.

Draper – VERACITY NETWORKS launched a 100-gigabit backbone fiber optic network with 10 Gigabit delivery speeds for business users in Utah. More than 100 miles of fiber optic cable were laid in eight months for the project.

Salt Lake City – UTAH.GOV, in partnership with the UTAH DIVISION OF WILDLIFE RESOURCES (DWR), launched a free hunting and fishing iPhone and Android app. The application gives Utah’s outdoor enthusiasts information on their mobile phones to help them get the most out of their outdoor adventures. The application includes information on wildlife events, licenses, permits and communicating with the DWR.

Salt Lake City – In November, C.R. ENGLAND Chairman Dan England signed a Statement of Support for the National Guard and Reserve, supporting Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense office.
