Squire and Company
As an accounting firm, Squire and Company’s summer season is light, so tax staff are given plenty of time off to compensate for the busy tax season. It’s part of the firm’s effort to make sure employees can maintain a healthy balance between life at work and outside it. The company also makes health savings account contributions for employees and provides access to free confidential counseling and crisis services.
To ensure employees are up-to-date and able to do their jobs, the firm provides education reimbursements for those studying for the CPA exam and at least 80 hours a year of training. The company has an open-door policy for management; any employee can talk to executives about their concerns and ideas.
Last year, TestOut employees and their families were treated to a nine-day Caribbean cruise. It’s just one of many perks of working at TestOut. The company also provides many other company outings such as Lagoon day and bowling.
TestOut focuses on its employees’ physical and mental well-being. It has held company biking, hiking and running activities, as well as lessons on organic gardening, nutrition and personal money management.
The company also wants to ensure employees are recognized and receive the guidance they need in their jobs. Every month it provides training during an employee meeting, where employees showcase their work and discuss how it impacts others’ jobs. Part of each quarterly budget is dedicated to training and seminars.
United Way of Salt Lake
United Way of Salt Lake is dedicated to improving the lives of people in Utah, and that definitely includes its own employees. The nonprofit organization works hard to ensure employees are well compensated and appreciated. United Way employee pay is higher than average for the nonprofit sector. The organization allows employees flexibility in their schedules. Many choose to work 80 hours over nine days instead of 10, giving them every second Friday off.
Even though it’s not required by law, UWSL recognizes domestic partnerships and allows employees’ domestic partners to be covered on health and dental insurance.

From offerings like weekly massages to pet insurance, it’s easy to see why employees at AtTask are happy. “I am thankful for the flexibility, the opportunities for advancement, and the great management teams here at AtTask,” says one employee. “I’ve never been more happy and have never worked for a better company.”
AtTask encourages each of its employees to continue their growth by providing training and certification allowances for conferences, seminars and other training. The company also has an internal peer-to-peer recognition program that each employee is encouraged to utilize, with a current participation rate of about 70 percent.
“The benefits are very good and not ‘silly’ as I’ve seen in other companies. … We do quarterly service projects, have movie premiere opportunities every month, incredible healthcare and every day I come to work I know I make a difference.”
Cementation is a company that understands the value of a vacation. It gives all employees three weeks of paid vacation annually, as well as nine days off for holidays. The company also understands the value of health: It covers 100 percent of benefits for salaried staff, as well as domestic partner coverage for medical, dental, vision and life insurance.
