Salt Lake City—Tooele County and Utah Motorsports Campus (UMC) are pleased to announce the return of the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West to Utah in 2016.
The NASCAR K&N Pro Series West is the preeminent training ground for the future stars of stock car racing, and raced in Utah at Miller Motorsports Park from 2007-2013. On September 10-11, the series will return to Utah for an historic double-header event, the first in the series’ history, on the 3.05-mile, 15-turn Outer Road Course at Utah Motorsports Campus. This will be the first time that the series will run on back-to-back days since 1979 and the first time since the series’ modern era began in 1971 that two races will be run in two days at the same track.
“We are very pleased to have reached an agreement to bring the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West back to Utah,” said Alan Wilson, President of Utah Motorsports Campus. “NASCAR stock car racing is among the world’s most popular sports, and the series has always staged thrilling and competitive races during its previous visits to Miller Motorsports Park. It is an honor to be able to host the series’ first-ever double-header event, and we look forward to a fantastic weekend for both the fans and the race teams.”
“We are thrilled to be returning to Utah and Utah Motorsports Campus,” said Kip Childress, NASCAR K&N Pro Series West director. “The NASCAR K&N Pro Series West has had a history of great racing there, it’s a world-class facility and the Utah fans are very passionate and knowledgeable. We expect the exciting championship battle to heat up even greater with the unique doubleheader format.”
The NASCAR K&N Pro Series runs separate East and West championships, each with 14 races counting toward the respective championships. In the hierarchy of NASCAR professional racing series, the K&N Pro Series is situated just below NASCAR’s national touring series, the Camping World Truck Series, the Xfinity Series and the Sprint Cup.
The list of NASCAR K&N Pro Series champions who became stars in the premier national championships include Ricky Craven (East, 1991), Kevin Harvick (West, 1998), Brendan Gaughan (West, 2000-01), Joey Logano (East, 2007), Ryan Truex (East, 2009-10), Kyle Larson (East, 2012) and Dylan Kwasniewski (West, 2012 and East, 2013).
Utah Motorsports Campus will announce its full 2016 schedule of events, as well as ticket and hospitality options, in the near future.
