Petzl announced plans to construct an 80,000-square-foot facility on Decker Lake Drive as part of the Lake Pointe business area, and initially employ 50 employees with the possibility to expand to 70 employees at this location. It is estimated that Petzl will invest more than $20 million dollars in its new North American headquarters.
Petzl intends to build a LEED-certified building that consists of 24,000 square feet for office space, 40,000 square feet for warehouse, and a 15,000-square-foot training area. The state-of-the-art training facility will contain a 60-foot tall indoor structure for product testing and training climbers and rope-access professionals.
“We’re thrilled to be moving our North American headquarters to West Valley City, just 10 minutes from the airport and surrounded by hotels, restaurants, and entertainment. This area has already attracted several major players in Utah’s growing outdoor industry,” said Nazz Kurth, president of Petzl America. “This move puts us close to excellent public transportation options that will offer employees and guests easy access to downtown. This central location is especially important now that our new training facilities will be drawing a steady stream of visitors from all over North and South America.”
Petzl is an international company that designs and manufactures innovative tools to help people operate with optimal safety in vertical or dark environments. Since Fernand Petzl’s early rope ascender designs for caving and alpinism, the company has continually expanded its product line to include headlamps, carabiners, helmets, ropes, harnesses, ice climbing equipment and more. Around the world, Petzl products are used widely by climbers, cavers, and canyoneers, as well as arborists, industrial rope-access professionals, public safety professionals, and others.
Petzl was born from a passion for exploration. That pioneering spirit continues to this day. More than 40 years later, Petzl continues to invent products and provide solutions that allow sports enthusiasts and professionals alike to access some of the world’s most challenging places.
