Salt Lake Area
Ray Quinney & Nebeker selected GREGGORY J. SAVAGE as chair of the firm’s litigation section and KAMIE F. BROWN as vice chair.

MARK VANORDEN was selected to serve as executive director of the Utah Department of Technology Services and as the state’s chief information officer (CIO). VanOrden was serving as the acting executive director and was chosen to permanently fill the position for his exemplary leadership and notable skills in information technology.

American Banker magazine’s October 2012 “Most Powerful Women in Banking” issue ranked LEEANNE B. LINDERMAN, Zions Bank’s executive vice president of retail banking, No. 21. She was the only banker from Utah listed. This marks the third time Zions’ senior-level women have been recognized by the publication as a top team.

The V Foundation for Cancer Research named TRUDY G. OLIVER, Ph.D., of the University of Utah Huntsman Cancer Institute, as a 2012 V Scholar. Seventeen cancer researchers were selected nationwide as a part of the foundation’s $3.4 million initiative to fund “rising star” physicians and scientists as they begin their careers. Each researcher will receive $200,000 to further his or her work over the next two years.

Commercial real estate veteran JEFF ROBERTS joined the Salt Lake Office of Coldwell Banker Commercial NRT (CBC) as a senior associate. Roberts is charged with expanding CBC’s representation in Utah and the Intermountain area across all major commercial real estate sectors including local and national retail, office, restaurants and businesses.

Trebor International promoted KELLY DAVIS to director of R&D and operations. Davis started with Trebor as operations manager. SAM KUYOTH was promoted to global channel manager. Kuyoth began in customer service.

Ray Quinney & Nebeker elected RICK THALER to the Economic Development Corporation of Utah’s board of trustees. Thaler is a shareholder and member of Ray Quinney & Nebeker’s executive committee.

The Vest Pocket Business Coalition awarded its first annual Richard M. Wirick Business Advocacy Award to Salt Lake County Mayor PETER CORROON. The award is a tribute to local business owner Richard Wirick, who passed away last February. He owned and operated The Oxford Shop shoe store for 60 years and was known by the moniker “Mr. Downtown.”

Health insurance provider EMI Health promoted DAVID WOOD to chief actuary. In his new role, Wood will review all financial liabilities of EMI Health, provide data analysis and pricing for all insurance renewals and products, and ensure the company’s compliance with the Affordable Care Act, among other duties. Wood was also appointed to serve on EMI Health’s executive committee, made up of the company’s senior leadership.

Northern Area
TAB Bank Chief Credit Officer GARY HARDING was elected to serve on the board of directors for the Commercial Finance Association (CFA). Harding has served as the chief credit officer for TAB Bank since March 2010. He oversees all underwriting, credit analysis and credit administration functions of the bank. 

Weber State University’s vice provost for Innovation & Economic Development, ALEX LAWRENCE, participated in The Innovative and Entrepreneurial University: Higher Education, Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Focus conference, held in Washington, D.C.

Wasatch/Summit Area
Skullcandy, Inc. appointed KYLE B. WESCOAT as senior vice president and CFO. Wescoat is a veteran CFO with more than 25 years of financial, accounting, IT, supply chain management, strategic planning, legal and risk management experience with a variety of public and private companies.

Maschoff Gilmore & Israelsen (MGI) hired KIRK R. HARRIS and MARK W. FORD. Harris joined MGI as a shareholder and his practice will focus on litigating patent, trademark, trade secret and copyright cases for clients in a wide range of industries. Ford joined MGI as a senior associate and will contribute to both its litigation and prosecution practices.

DAVE MORIN was named trustee for U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association. Morin is a former ski racer and co-founder and CEO of Path. He began his career at Apple, then moved to Facebook until 2010, when he left to form Path—a personal social network.

Summit County Beef hired TOM RICHARDSON as its new executive director to bolster its online presence with locals and build stronger relationships with Park City and Salt Lake City restaurants. Richardson has been a business owner and entrepreneur in Park City for decades. In recent years, he created the Locals Card, a discount card for those living and working in the community.

Southern Utah
Strike Axe, Inc. appointed WAYNE ALLYN ROOT, a seasoned entrepreneurial veteran, as CEO and director. In this position, Root is responsible for corporate vision, national and global branding, strategic partnerships, cultivating key distribution channels and expanding distribution.

The Utah Association of Realtors named LORI CHAPMAN, associate broker with Coldwell Banker Premier in St. George, as the 2012 Realtor of the Year. The honor was presented at the UAR’s recent annual convention in St. George. The Realtor of the Year award is a decades-old tradition of the Utah Association of Realtors that honors realtors who commit themselves to serving and improving the real estate profession. Chapman has been a realtor for 30 years.
