Smith Powell and Company, LLC Celebrates 100 Years in Business

Smith Powell & Company, one of Utah’s oldest accounting firms, announced its centennial anniversary, celebrating 100 years of service in the accounting industry. 2012 commemorated 100 years of providing quality accounting, auditing, tax, and business advisory services to individuals and privately held businesses in a wide range of professions and industries.

Founded in Salt Lake City in 1912 by J. Percey Goddard and Roy G. Abbey, the firm was originally named The Goddard‐Abbey Company and was located in the McIntyre Building downtown. Though the name and leadership has changed, the commitment to servicing its clients has remained the same. In addition, its offices are still located in the now historic, McIntyre Building right next door to the new downtown City Creek development.

The current partners, Roger Powell and Brandon Zrno, continue to foster a culture that emphasizes quality work and maintaining client relationships – just like their predecessors. Two such predecessors, Ron W. Smith and John Ritter who are both now deceased, were instrumental in transitioning the firm into the 21st century. “Ron and John’s dedication to the firm and its clients created a culture that put the well‐being of our clients above all else. This was recognized by our clients and is the reason that we continue to service multiple generations of families and businesses, some going back 50 or more years,” said Brandon Zrno. By continuing to maintain this culture and employing a staff of hard working CPAs, the firm is positioned for growth and looks forward to another 100 years in business.
