South Towne Center Plans $20 Million in Improvements

Press Release

July 8, 2015

Sandy—Big changes are coming to South Towne Center as the popular shopping destination prepares to undergo a $20 million dollar redesign and renovation project. The Los Angeles office of Gensler Associates is the architecture, design and planning firm responsible for creating the new warm and inviting design for South Towne Center that is complimentary to the stunning Wasatch Mountains.
Beginning this August, the 1.3 million-square-foot shopping center will undergo notable improvements to the lighting, landscaping and parking lot to accommodate a new off-ramp from north bound I-15 exiting on to South Towne Center property. The outdoor improvements are just the beginning and will set the stage for exciting changes to the shopping center’s 966,000 square foot interior.
Enhancements planned for the renovation include:
·   Exterior modernization with larger windows, wood and stone facades
·   Expanded outdoor terrace with cozy, comfortable seating areas
·   Larger food court with delicious new offerings to please every palate
·   Fountain remodel to enhance the newly designed interior
·   New modern flooring, with rich beautiful texture
·   Brighter interior paint and wood accents throughout the center
·   Larger and more interactive children’s play area
“As South Towne Center enters its 30th year serving the Sandy community it is the perfect time to enhance the customer experience, “ said Gary Karl, Executive Vice President, Pacific Retail Capital Partners. “This renovation will create a vibrant, contemporary, outdoor inspired shopping experience with more entertainment and dining options to serve customers of all ages. This project has been in the works for some time now, and we can’t wait to get started.”
The renovation will take place in stages and the shopping center will remain open to serve customers throughout the process. The project is expected to bring in new local and national retailers, and is slated to be complete in fall, 2016.
The South Towne Center redevelopment is part of The Cairns, Sandy City's 1,100 acre city center, which will be a destination location boasting 20 million square feet of development for an unparalleled live, work, play, shop experience. The “Mountain Meets Urban" environment elevates the mixed-use elements of office, retail and residential with the amenities expected of an active urban lifestyle, including a bustling arts and entertainment scene, strong trails network, outdoor gathering niches and, of course, the highlight being its location just minutes from world-class mountain recreation.
"With the launch of The Cairns, we promised a city center unlike any other," said Sandy City Mayor Tom Dolan. "The exciting reinvention of the mall into a "Mountain Meets Urban" experience is integral to our fulfilling that promise."
